ABOUT OUR PROJECT
In Mr K’s literacy group we have been working on our very own project called Ōtautahi Pizza. We have all decided on our very own group members, each group have individually named their pizza inspired by places in Ōtautahi (Christchurch).
To start the project we thought about all the food trucks and interesting things we are seeing around our city. We all like food and street food is very popular, so we decided to make our own pizzas. Mr K found a website called Trello. This is an organiser for projects like ours. It has been very helpful because you drag something you need to do, are doing or have done into the slot that it belongs in. Earlier on in term one we took part in a program called Food for Thought, made by the Heart foundation. Our whole classroom had learned about healthy diets and lifestyles.
The project has taken a lot of planning and collaboration. We researched what kinds of pizzas people like, how they are made and the ways that different pizza restaurants set up their websites. All of us were in a group to create a pizza, but we also decided which of 4 other groups we would join for the project. These were:
Later in term three, Mr K's literacy group had a logo competition to see what logo to put on our website. We had a week to design a logo. But you had to send your logo to Mr K if you want to be able to compete in the competition. We all did a vote on Google Forms and Arona’s logo won.

- Writers (for the website)
- Web designers
- Musicians (creating radio jingles)
- Documenters (developing a learning story for our classroom walls)

In our groups we designed our pizzas. The Heart foundation left our group with $60 worth of PAK'nSave vouchers to use. We made a list of ingredients for Mr K so he could go to get them and all had to estimate the total cost of our groups ingredients which had to be under $6.00. But instead our total was $59.71 and we saved 29c in our budget.
We voted on five students to go make pizza dough with Sheryl, our TA. She helped five children ( Cole, Alani, Kiara, Zoe and Milla) create their very own dough ready for our pizzas in the morning.
Then one new person helped out to cut up the ingredients and all of the people who helped did an amazing job with slicing and dicing all of the different ingredients.
There were four roles, they were group manager, media, toppings and base prep. The base prep did their job. Then the toppings people went next, toppings is a really big job because we want the pizzas to look professional. At the same time the media is taking professional looking photos of their groups pizza for our website.
Lots of us have been working hard on different parts of our website. We hope you enjoy!
We would also like to thank our helpful, amazing teacher aide, Sheryl, for helping us through our pizza journey.
